All photos were taken early September 2018 and edited in 2020. September is a great time of the year to shoot here, as crowds are gone and cool nights (some frost already) make for more impressive steam elements rising from the hot pools. Steam and exploding geysers are both a creative and technical challenge. You have to be very careful with your lenses in these harsh environments. I have done very little color enhancement. The range of colorful bacteria and natures own geological formations make amazing subjects.

The images on this website are presented in low resolution 72 dpi, and indexed color (max 256 colors in each picture). Originals are much sharper and great for enlargement on electronic or print media output.

Photos in this series have been cropped to 16:9 ratio to fit most TV & monitor formats. Prints and canvas copies would be ideal for 36″w x 20″h. Originals are 350 dpi with a million colors in the spectrum rather than 256.
